How It Started
Terry Dunning and Casey Costner started dating in February 2017 in Allegan, Michigan, and by November of that year, they moved to Colorado Springs, where they had their first child, Raven. In Jan of 2020, Terry, Casey, and Raven decided to move to Denver, and it was shortly after arriving there that the Pandemic hit, shutting down the Country.
During the early days of the pandemic, Terry and Casey developed an interest in Slap Fighting, and it was shortly after witnessing Ron (Wolverine) Bata in a few matches that Terry reached out and requested an interview on his podcast (Blunt Trips).
Fast forward a little bit, and Terry gets wind that there is a new Slap Fight Promotion in the works, and he reaches out To Ron (Wolverine) Bata and finds out Ron is going to be a part of this new promotion, Power Slap.
With no planning at all, Terry and Casey decide to move to Vegas to go all in on both covering the sport and Casey's MMA training at Xtreme Couture. Arriving in Vegas with less than 2K to their names, Terry, Casey, and Raven landed in Las Vegas on June 6th, 2023.
After covering a few trending topics, Terry decided to go exclusive on Slap Fight Coverage and switched his Podcast focus on the new brand Beyond The Slap. However, it wasn't long before Terry became a standout in the niche, and before he knew it every podcaster covering the sport tried to get Terry's Platform cancelled.
Not only did Beyond the Slap survive 3 cancellation attempts by his ops, but it came out as not only a reliable source of information for the sport, it stood out as the most respected Platform in Slap Fight coverage.
Many people thought Beyond The Slap wouldn't survive not only the cancellation attempt but also its coverage of other promotions on every continent, but Terry used that to his advantage. He would be the first to interview many unknown (at the time) athletes who would go on to become BIG names in the sport. Many of the best in Slap fighting did their first interviews with Terry.
After covering the sport for years and taking a LOT of shit for his coverage of all promotions, Terry realised he had something NO other Podcaster in the sport had... Respect From Every Promotion...
In 2025 in was announced that the first ever International Slap Fight Award ceremony was being held and it would be hosted by one of the original interview podcasters covering the sport, Terry Dunning, but it wasnt just hosted by Terry, it was funded entirely by him and Casey to give back to the athletes that make the sport happen, this was the birth of the ONLY recognized International Slap Fight Award Platform, The SLHappy Awards..
